Super spin attack
By Em

I love games, almost as much as my long suffering other half does, so imagine our heartfelt joy when we stumbled upon a teeny little arcade tucked away in a corner of Granville Island (sadly not 'open all hours' before you start).

One cab in particular screamed out at us, 'Sonic championship'. We'd never heard of it, but the 'insert coin' message was impossible to resist and it wasn't long before Snake was rummaging in his pocket for quarters to feed this baby with. Two shirt buttons and a blue peter badge later, we were ready to go.

Canada’s National Currency

Selecting the 2P Vs battle we were presented with the character roster. Snake chose Sonic, while I decided to pin my hopes on Amy. Our selections made and, not knowing what to expect, the game commenced this improbable battle to the death. In typical fashion, the match began with some furious button bashing, both of us trying to work out the controls. The normally genteel Amy proved a quick study and belted Sonic round the chops with her hammer - Hurrah! Sonic came back with his trademark spin, sending poor Amy flying. Not to be outdone by old spikeypants, retaliation came in the form of an eye-watering kick up the arse, knocking sonic clean off his feet.

Amy laid into sonic with her hammer again, but the tide of battle was turning against us; Snake at this point had figured out the controls and quickly overpowered Amy for an easy win.

Second round and everything still to play for, Amy went straight in with the hammer. Sonic came back with a kick and Amy took another pot shot with the hammer. Sadly the second round followed much the same pattern as the first and ultimate victory went to Snake and Sonic.

Hedgehog vs Green Bird thing with a quiff

Feeling quite upset at this crushing defeat, I select another character and the mighty horn of combat was blown again. Much arse kicking (and very sore wrists) later, I had secured a victory worthy of an epic poem, and more importantly, a much deserved feeling of extreme smugness.

But no, What's this? Snake had to insert more coins and I still had some credit (proof of my excellence), so being a generous wife, I stepped aside (or strafed, as us gaming types call it), and let Snake beat the crap out of Robotnik for me. After all, that's what husbands are for.. Well, that and spiders.

Boats and Games ahoy!

Next time we visit Granville island, we're bringing more quarters.
