| Far Cry is a very, very pretty FPS that doesn’t have Smellovision or a Telepathic Mouse-Link feature or anything, but it’s tough and terrific fun, with smart, believable enemy AI and an action movie-like approach to tactics. Like this:

Here, I attacked some mercenaries who were standing around a busted boat, discussing the finer points of shark fishing.
I killed two of them, but the remaining two jumped into a jeep and drove off. One of them shouted something about 'getting the others'.
I pursued on foot and found the jeep a while later, crashed against a tree. Yeah, driving on those jungle trails is a bitch.
One of the mercs was hiding in a bush. I killed him just as the other one came running with back-up in the form of four-to-five additional mercs. They took up positions behind trees and rocks and fired on me, while one tried to move in a circle and take me in the back.
A little later on the same map, I was under attack by mercs and this helicopter. I saw a mounted minigun, grabbed it and managed to shoot the gunner out of the helicopter (see insert).
SICKBOY…
On a picturesque outcrop, near where the mercs had established a fort, I caught
a sniper daydreaming.
Further up, I spied a couple of guys bitching about their equipment and zapped ‘em both with the dead sniper’s rifle. Oh, the irony.
After a quick butchers at the view, I blasted my way into the fully alerted fort…
One of the mercs thought he could trick me with a cheeky tunnel ambush. He was wrong. (Dead wrong? - Man. Ed)
During a brutal firefight, the mercs called for back-up. I thought it only fair to gun down the support troops as they left the drop-off plane.
At the top of the hill, I commandeered a hand-glider and drifted blissfully away towards, um, an incoming helicopter.
Being really hard and all, I held onto the hand-glider with one arm and blasted the copter’s gunner with the other.
There’s a lot more of this, later on. With added monsters.
