What Happened Was... THE FIRST INSTALLMENT

Many years ago, I wasn't called 'Koworld' and Mark@thearchive wasn't called 'Mark@thearchive'. Lots of things were different. The A-Team was still in its rightful Saturday tea-time slot. School was gun-free. Many, many snacks were better than they are today.

I was 'Rik The Rodent' (it looked good on the side of a canoe - long story) and Mark had a double life as 'Big Turkey One' (thanks CB). Mark wanted to be Burt Reynolds, Kenny Rogers and Kris Kristopherson, a facial hair thing I think. I wanted to be Daley Thompson or George Davis. Of course I did, scruffy fat white kid that I was, it was obvious.

Mark dreamed of driving his shipment coast to coast across the good ole US of A. I dreamed of selling things in shops. You see even my 11 year old brain knew I wasn't going to be winning any decathlon medals so it didn't even try to imagine a scenario where I did.

Then something tiny happened. A crazy ginger bloke selotaped some plastic together, jammed the missing extras in the side and mailed it out with a label that said 'Here is your Spectrum, its great'. And a cabinet was delivered to a burger bar next to the smashed-up smelly Oxford Bus Station. The real Bus Station is gone now but memories of that Star Wars machine will never die.

Something was happening, we could feel the winds of change blowing gently across our faces. We didn't know it then but our lives we're about to change forever...
