Euro 2012
  • Well, that was boring :p

It's an Adidas ball, a descendant of the infamous Jabulani, so it's to be expected I guess.

Actually the ball in this tournament has received many congratulations on its quality and similarity to the balls used in the major European leagues, and several have noted it as a factor in the generally high-quality football that's been played so far.

Exactly the same as the Jabulani, which had some crazy movement in it.
  • Did someone smack Alan Hanson in the face with a frying pan or something?

Wishful thinking on a large numbers part.

  • Jesus, what a rollercoaster! Can't believe England pulled that out given how rubbish they were a large stretches of that game!
  • Indeed mate. One of the worst 20 mins I can recall from an England team and somehow a spirited comeback on the back of some Walcott luck/magic. Ukraine is no given of course, and even then the spectre of Spain looms beyond, so let's 'enjoy' it while we can. Also, I defy anyone to argue Downing would have done worse than Ashley Young tonight. ;)
  • I would say Young was anonymous tonight, whereas Downing would have been outright awful.
  • Cor. not enjoying the early morning karate tournament. still, go Englanders!
  • Sit there and sleep. I'm fucking working with a big of a hangover. Fucking England.

I defy anyone to argue he could possibly have been any better.
  • @reloaded That's what you get for drinking that Budweiser.
  • This is worth a watch, just for the Downing stuff :-)

  • Milan Baros, still not very good.

Like the look of Obraniak though, and given that he's in France, there's a chance Graham Carr already has his phone number.

  • Put me down in the "Welbeck meant it" camp. His game is full of flicks and backheels and although it looks ridiculous, that's a pretty natural motion for a footballer.

More importantly, two best kits out of the tournament in Russia home and Sweden away.
  • I do believe we're into the best part of any tournament. Simultaneous matches and fortunes changing by the minute.
  • Thought that Holland might try and go out with a bang, only turned on at half time but a bit disappointed in their performance so far. Wake up boys or you're going home.
  • Why is it every time I see Ronaldo play, I want to smack him upside his stupid face?
  • Funny, I was thinking the same thing about Robben.
  • Come on Denmark!
  • I am intensely annoyed he's scored twice. He's hugely annoying, and I still think hugely overrated too.
  • I'd rather have Ronaldo than Robben in a team any day.
  • Ronaldo's an absolute cunt. But he's a very talented footballer.
  • I'm surprised they haven't taken him off before De Jong kung-fu kicks his kneecaps off.

so one better than Rocky then?
  • Volta ater! Volta ater! Volta ater!

    Perdemos esta.
  • Half past nine.

Seconded. As far as I can see Robben just runs into defenders, falls over and then whines. Ronaldo be a cunt, but Robben is a whinging little shit.
  • I think we are all agreed then that Ronaldo is a high-resolution, weapons-grade gobshite, but an excellent football player.
  • I think I he just came out and admitted he loves a bit of cock, he'd be much happier and therefore nicer.
  • I think we are all agreed then that Ronaldo is a high-resolution, weapons-grade gobshite, but an excellent football player.

He's certainly very good, but I still have suspicions about his ability to perform against top level opposition, I've always seen him as a flat-track bully, and the stats from his last Manchester United season, where although they scored more goals per game with him in the team they actually had a lower winning percentage, seemed to bear that out. I thought selling him for that much was the best bit of business Ferguson's ever done.
  • He took the Dutch apart fairly convincingly. They're ranked fourth in the world. Admittedly, that might flatter them, but they're hardly "weak" opposition.
  • I know. Could he be any more annoying?
  • I strongly doubt it.
  • It simply points out the utter ridiculousness of the rankings. The Dutch should have beaten Denmark, but the tournament has developed into a farce and a shambles for them. Last night they were hopelessly exposed on the counter by the pace and running power of what is a very athletic Portugal team.

Pushing aside the personal for one moment...Ronaldo does perform week-in, week-out in La Liga, and with every 50-goal season, the flat-track bully tag loses its clout. As for Robben, he is a mercurial player, and for every anonymous, fitful performance, I've seen one when he was equally unplayable.
  • You say mercurial, I say inconsistent. Let's call the whole thing off.
  • It's hard for him to be a professional footballer AND a Starfleet captain.
  • Russia and Holland are going home because they proved so wasteful with the sheer number of chances they had in all three games. Ronaldo wasted a fair few but redeemed himself spectacularly last night.

At one stage, Denmark could quite easily nicked a goal or two to condemn Germany to a shock exit. Given how well the Germans have played overall, that would be very unfair. Even if they are German.
  • Germany look by some way the best team in it for me.
  • You have to fancy them in the quarters, that's for sure. It would be interesting to see how they deal with Spain, having been so comprehensively outplayed by them at the past two tournaments. We'll find out tonight if that potential clash is still on.

What odds a 2-2 between Spain and Croatia?
  • Anyone know what happens if Spain Croatia is 0-0 and Italy wins 2-0? Italy and Croatia would be on same points, same GD, same goals scored, and they drew against each other. Drawing of lots, flip a coin?
  • Fittest birds.

Even that one might be level.
  • Robben is a greedy bastard and only has 'being a hero' on his mind when he has the ball on the wing.

Very similar to our Damo but without the pace.

    Or skill.

    Or looks.
  • I think you'll find Damo's got speed, not pace.

UEFA coefficient I believe so Italy go through.

You're spot on about Robben being greedy. Couldn't be further from the truth about me though.

    I've changed.

It's all grade A smack these days.
  • German tv channel, ZDF have spent so much money on their fancy outdoor studio on a beach(!), they had to get the completely wooden, wurst-advertiser, Oliver Kahn as expert. Hosted by Skeletor's missus, being more annoying than Adrian Chiles.

Although to be fair, Kahn seems ok tonight.

They're saying on TV here that a 2-2 draw in the Spain game puts Italy out no matter what. I have no idea why. Italy winning by a huge margin is not unlikely.

  • I think I read that if that a 2-2 draw and a win for Italy puts Spain, Croatia & Italy all on 5 points, which then turns the group into a mini 3-team league, meaning that the margin of hammering of Ireland doesn't count for anything.
  • But they've all drawn with each other in that scenario.
