And by that I mean Gloucester.

Earlier today I stumbled across the best videogame shop I've ever seen in the UK. Second only to Super Potato in Tokyo in my personal experience, which is saying something.

They had pretty much every major retro console covered, and shelves upon shelves of retro games. So much that they had an extra store room upstairs with stuff they can't fit on the shelves in the shop. I was quite restrained and spent £13 on a boxed Unirally (£6), boxed Stunt Race FX (£4), and loose Striker (£3). A couple of display cases housed the owner's collection of FF, Zelda, GB, SNES, Atari, Arcade and more. Totally brilliant.

Anyway, I've been up since 5AM and haven't stopped all day so I'm off to bed now. But I'll do a proper write up in the morning.

Until then... a video and some photos (I'll order them tomorrow).

    Enjoy.

  • Wow, what an awesome place.....

  • WOW WOW WOW.

Reminds me of a game shop we used to have in town about 20 years ago that dealt with imports and stuff. I would love to go there.
  • That looks cool but to be honest I'm disappointed that this thread doesn't contain Rhianna pictures. :-)
  • Wow man, what a find, bloody reasonable prices on the single SNES carts too.

Glad it's no where near me, I'd end up spending a fortune. Did you chat with the owner about how it came to be?
  • Oh lordy! A new place to burn money!

Is that a cocktail cab in the last pic?
  • Funny, seeing these pics makes me wish I'd taken photos of my local Computer Shop, even photos of the window display of John Menzies in 1985 would have been cool.
  • wow: yes. i spent an hour in there and barely scratched the surface.

cocktail cab: yes, a woody 2600 also

    owner story: tomorrow

bizarre: they are high street only, no online - not even eBay. boxed SNES games not even priced up, he just checked eBay sold items and picked the average price before postage. very odd. I keep thinking if I ever go back (I will) whether it was all a figment of my imagination.

    now: zzzz.

  • I couldn't ever do what he does, If I had that shop I wouldn't want to offload anything!
  • the guy working in there wasn't the owner, intriguing!
  • Amazing. ROAD TRIP!
  • Looks fantastic!

    I agree!
  • Holy mother of god, you have just found... NERDVANA!

Thank god it's nowhere near me or available online, far too much temptation for me to resist other wise!
  • Wow... looks like a great place. And yeah, I'd almost say underpriced in some areas.
  • And according to Google StreetView, there's a KFC next door and a bar (The Fountain Inn) directly opposite.

    What's not to love?

You obviously haven't been to Gloucester before. Of course, I would say that, I'm from Cheltenham. It's a Springfield/Shelbyville thing.

    That is correct!
  • Did the shopkeeper give you a costume and did you go on a strange adventure ?
  • Just a small, oddly tasting bit of paper on my way in.

    What?
  • Looks ace that. Good find Matt.
  • Like the way he's grouped game series across consoles too.

I know what one I prefer.
  • That looks amazing!
I need to find somewhere like that oop norf.
Anyone know anywhere around Leeds like that?
  • I think all the Leeds ones shut up years ago. The nearest you'd get is going into the Retro Bar or looking at some ironic hipster display in A Nation of Shopkeepers.
  • Looks exactly like the shop I found in Brighton many years ago where I bought Iridis Alpha on its first day of release. :-)
  • have corrected photo order and orientation
  • Is R Games owned by R Kelly?
  • Also noticed he has "Hot For Teacher" playing in the background on that vid.

    nice.
  • He was dressed like Morgan (trainers and baseball cap) and had music taste like TT.

    What an odd ball ;)
  • Every time I see this thread it makes me think, "Up the bum?".

    Is that just me?
  • There's nothing hopeless about 'bum love'.
  • I think last time it was mentioned Rocky was "hopeful" for it and "hopeless" at it
  • Which is surprising given the practice he's put in.
  • Here's another write up I found about R Games from 2009, with loads more photos

  • Awesome. Rodent road trip ahoy! This demands our patronage!
  • If a road trip is on that cards, I'm in. Although my availability might be somewhat limited between June and September.

There will be beer, though, right?

  • I'd love to be part of a rodent mob. Sue would be up for it as well, mainly for the drink I imagine.
  • I'll give an early warning next time I'm going, just in case people want to come along.
  • Got some time off at the end of March...Might pop along then..
  • Sounds good, if you fancy proposing a specific date we can start making arrangements?
  • Movie followed by dinner?

    Wait, what?
  • I've got 28-Mar - 02-Apr off work so anytime then would be aces.
  • Works for me...
  • Works for me.
  • Ooh. I'm a maybe - meant to be spending time with my sister one long weekend in March and that was one of the options but we've not fixed a date do I'll see what I can do.
  • Should we pin this to stop it getting lost down the topics?
  • Pinned for now but if anyone feels it shouldn't be then unpin it forthwith.
  • Mucho gracias!
  • Not far from the train station!
