New version of Vanilla installed. stuff should be better/different - Feedback?
  • What's new since 2.0.17:

•Added moderation tools, bans, and delete/edit logging
    •Asynchronous notifications (Growl-like popups)
    •Advanced category management
    •IP logging in core
•Our new Split/Merge plugin comes included
    •HUNDREDS of bug fixes!
•More highlights for developers are in the changelog
  • This is SHI... oh hang on... let me test it a bit first...
  • BANS!! ;)
  • Well, typing "Vanilla" into search failed to find this thread. So they've missed the most obvious problem/bug.
  • But look at the categories box!...
  • more blue-ness?
  • Still says I have 3 PMs when I don't...

You *sure*? The search bar at the top seems a little nobby, but on the search page itself it looks like it could be searching titles now
  • Everything looks slighty smaller.

A worthy upgrade in my opinion.
  • Icons back on the mobile client.
  • ah yeah, they will be, silly theme.
  • Just got spammed with pop ups telling me people commented in some of my bookmarked discussions.. about an hour after I had already read the messages...

    That works a treat then!
  • It does seem to be searching titles, but it still won't search 3 letter words.

I got an initial set of popup notifications, I imagine they'll be OK from now on.

My Stylish theme is still working, no changes needed :)

  • Looks like we all win!
  • @keith: You can turn the pop-ups off, if they bother you. Click on your user name on the top bar, then hit preferences > notifications.

I just tried again (using "feedback", rather than "vanilla", as that's now mentioned in the thread itself), and yes, it does seem to be searching titles. Result.

Don't know why it didn't work the first time I tried it.
  • The pop-ups don't bother me, just strange that they were appearing an hour after I had already read the comments they referred to.
  • No easy buttons for styling posts or adding images still?
  • That's in the realms on the plugins - WYSIWYG styley. I shall have a lookie see if any of them actually work now.
  • Learn some HTML Spanky!
  • It's not a case of learning HTML - it just makes it a bit more of a chore to properly embed a link, post a photo, format text, etc. Particularly on a phone.
  • I can duz the HTMLz but it's easier to use WYSIWYG init?
  • But WYSIWYG takes longer to type.
  • WYTIWYG is much more satisfying.
  • Also, you could create a browser add-in to insert the relevant code and then you could tailor it to be forum specific...

  • When are we getting the good old fashioned italic and most important photo upload buttons?

Yes I know there's guides for posting pictures but I don't have time to learn BASIC to post a pic of some tits. Everytime I mention it someone posts a link* to the way to do it but it MEANS NOTHING TO ME.

*Expecting at least one link to the guide after posting.

On the positive it's nice that the search now works and it's all provided free. But the lack of Koworld and simple image buttons makes me sad.

That's true - embedding links is a pain the arse on phone/ipad.
  • We don't want to be able to upload images though do we? That's something entirely different.

To be honest, looking at a few WYSIWYFG plugins (there aren't many) it seems they break more than they fix. It's a minefield I tells you.
  • Seems to be an option to get email notifications now. That's not going to get old..
  • Just turn it off then in your prefs!
  • Well I think the whole forum is now a disgrace to snooker so I'm off to form a new, breakaway forum with Thorne and Virgo.

    Anyone coming with me?
  • @Rocky: Fair enough.

@Scrote: Links are easy. Just paste in the URL and Vanilla automagically turns it in to a link.

    e.g., http://www.scroteisathicky.com

Not upload to WOTR spanky, but the img button we had before. Something simple that fuckwits can use. Like me.

    Done it already ;-)

Thing is, we get that and we break cool stuff like auto links and auto youtube embedding.

I'm talking about PHOTO's. I know the links thing works fine.
  • That's ridiculous. These things have been working on other forums for ages.
  • is there a plugin that automagically converts a jpg link into an embedded image, like the youtube one does?
  • Wouldn't that just be a fairly simple code-change sat just after the posting code? - to scan for a .jpg/.png and then replace the image string with a padded IMG SRC string with the original link inserted?
  • I'd have thought so, since it already works for youtube it's obviously doing some sort of post-post processing.
  • too much white space :P
  • and it's broken.

    oh, wait..
  • Annnnnnnd....we're back... (for now...)

    :D
  • Unrelated server crapout there I think
  • Holy moly! - Just searched for mackerel and it found the COD: MW thread!
  • sounds fishy.
  • Hmmm, though searching for "work" or "Work" fails to turn up The Work Thread. So it's still a bit flakey.
  • This is controversial but...

It's better. It's still not as good as the old one, but it's better.

Howdy, Stranger!
