The COMPLETED thread
  • Righto, finished Mr Winterbottom's jobby on XBLA last night. Lovely game, although something stopped it being a great game that I can't put my finger on.

  • That sounds like an awful game.
  • It's not awful by any stretch, it's actually very nice. I guess it just walks that puzzle game line between fun and annoying just a little too haphazardly.
  • Why is it called 'Mr Winterbottoms Jobby' ?
  • It's a physics-based game, set around a man who likes flinging his own poo.
  • looks scary
  • Not sure if I bothered to post it in the other thread, I finally finished Red Dead Redemption the other day. And Fallout 3. No intention to com-pete either.

Problem is, I play a lot of games that can't really be "completed", like Minecraft, Football Manager and Dwarf Fortress.
  • I've played a couple of games of Dwarf Fortress for a few hours a day for a month and really still feel like I've not even started it yet.
  • Plants vs Zombies (360) - 200/200.

Not quite competed however as I have a few co-op challenges to mop up and a couple of things left to buy from the shop.

Absolutely love how Popcap have managed to squeeze in so many different variations on the gameplay. Terrific value for money and highly recommended.

  • Bayonetta done. It's certainly better than I expected, but I'm not convinced it's a 10/10.

Also, easily as many cut scenes as any Metal Gear Solid game, yet no one mentions this?

  • I'll have to fire Dead Nation and see how you stacked up against my score... I ran with a decent multiplyer through the game.

  • I only did it in co-op, so not sure if the leaderboards are the same.
  • @reloaded Unlike MGS bayonetta's cutscenes haven't got their head up their arse. Just focus a lot on Ms Bayonetta's peach instead ;)

Personally I have no complaint about the indugences of MGS or it's cutscenes.
  • Largely speaking I loved the bonkersness of Bayonetta and the combat is more solid than I initially gave it credit for and the characters are ace - I obviously didn't have a problem with the blatant sexuality of the central protagonist and didn't find it anywhere near as overly sexual as had been made out, but perhaps that says more about me than the game. The cut scenes were generally pretty amusing but far longer than I was expecting - not that that's a bad thing, I like Kojima showing us how Hollywood films would look without a decent editor.

Some of the levels were mildly annoying - I'm looking at you pointless bike scenes and you stupid jumping up the walls, but not enough to detract massively from the overall experience.

I guess I really quite enjoyed it, and while there aren't many glaring flaws, I'd be hard pushed to see how it deserves to be awarded those perfect scores.

  • Love the line about Kojima there Damo. I played the demo and wasn't gripped at all, it was a deffo Ely for me, lots of others really enjoyed it so possibly the demo was a bit pants. Or I'm a miserable cunt. Or both.

  • I hated the Bayonetta demo, just like I did with the Batman AA demo. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but I don't think the demo does the full game anything like the justice it deserves.
  • I hated the Batman AA demo too, but ended up loving the full release to bits.
  • Should try castlevania damo, its like god of war crossed with prince of persia. It even has captain picard in it!
  • I've got Castlevania on the PS3. It's lots of fun, but there's a few games in front of it that will be getting my attention first.
  • like what? filming no farting for twisted's gaming school? :)

  • Oh yeah, I NEED that Damo.

    :)

Also fancy a scuffle of FN4? Puff?
  • Next up, "No Fighting".

Fight Night 4 soon. I hope you've been getting some practice in. Fuck knows you need it. ;)

Or scriptwriter. Or a remote sense of logic.

  • @reloaded

    Oh you'll find out son.
  • That's Mafia II completed, just a few chievos left to snag, fun little game but by god the voice acting was driving me mental.

Just started up on Brutal Legend now, really liking it so far.
  • Assassin's Creed 2 done today, much better than the first although combat was made so easy a chimp could play, which made the game seem a bit lightweight God of War-esque. The assassinations were also quite throwaway, whereas with the first game you had some animosity towards your targets; here I wasn't really sure why I was killing them apart from they were friends with Joe Evil. Overall though they made it work better than the first and I quite liked the story although it got a bit ridiculous near the end.

EDIT: also finished Ilomilo today, really nice little brain scratching puzzler, a bit slow at times but has a lot of charm.

  • 200/200 on ilomilo and World of Keflings, 250/250 on Raskulls, and even more recently 200/200 on Stacking.

I haven't quite com-PETE-d Keflings, as there are more "emotes" I haven't unlocked, but since they're all pointless I don't give a damn, either.

  • Finally finished Dead Space 2 off last night. The final save said 6 and a half hours so not the longest of gaming experiences but by god it was a real rollercoaster ride. To be honest i've played it in fairly short bursts because it was just such an intense experience.

Certainly going to start a New+ game at some point but for the moment I need to leave it alone and let my nerves stop jangling.

Not sure i'm even going to contemplate a playthrough on hardcore. That just seems lunacy.
  • Marvel vs Capcom 3 campaign done. Obviously I'll be playing through a few times, but if I get to see the credits then I guess it's completed.

Oh, the last boss is pretty cheap, like Chad mentioned elsewhere.
  • I've milked Split/Second for most of the single player smarties. I've not golded every event, but I find the helicopter and truck stuff quite tedious, so have no inclination to try. The core racing and elimination is cracking fun though. Much better than Blur, in my opinion.
  • I'd agree with you. I'm actually going to buy another copy of S/S on the cheap...

"Completed" Deathsmiles, as in, saw the ending. Well, I've seen two of the five endings, anyway. I'll be seeing the rest before long, but there's absolutely no chance of a com-PETE-ion.

  • You've not said, but we'll just assume that's on the hardest difficulty on a single credit.
  • Even on the easiest difficulty on a single credit I've got no chance. There's actually a huge difficulty spike on the last level, if you've played on the easiest level up to that point (I got to the second last level on one credit, I thought I was just amazing at it). It's not really a problem, with infinite continues, but I've got no hope at all of ever completing the last level on one credit.
  • That's bioshock 2 completed to the end credits not sure I'll be going back to get all the achievements though :)
  • Nice work Diz... like Bioshock 1 though, I took my time and made sure I got everything I needed on each level before progressing to try and reduce the need to replay it heh... and then went online for the madness of those cheevos...

You must have really piled through it - about 10 and a half for me, though I am a nook-and-cranny man. I liked it a lot, an improvement over the first even though it's essentially more of the same. Some great set-pieces, memorable scenes and some big jumps.
  • Yep, it was over 10 hours for me on Dead Space 2 as well, lots of time spent just cowering in corners did for me I think! :D I generally found it a little tougher than the first one too - an fact, I had to drop down to casual for the last boss in the end.

I've got about half way though my New+ game run through now, on 'Zealot' setting. With the new 'yellow' suit you get, plus most of the weapons and Kinesis maxed out, it's nice dishing out pain to all of the shits that owned you on the first time round - that said, I'm sure it will get tougher towards the end.
  • Uncharted finished. Great game. Seriously - up there in my top five games I reckon. Looking forward to the second one now.
  • Gta4 done. Rather frustrating last mission and had to repeat a few times because I fucked up the bike bit, but otherwise great. Got a few side missions to polish off before the Lost and the Damned.
  • I finally finished Arcania, billed as Gothic 4. It was a real slog to get through it, though having played through the previous three games on the PC, something I felt I had to do. None of the original Gothic team worked on this -- they all shifted over to the unofficial sequel, Risen, which it superior in every way. Arcania is poor. It's stable and bug-free, but it feels unfinished, with place holders for unimplemented features littering the game world and a complete lack of balance. Avoid.
  • Milo's just finished Paper Mario Thousand year door. Good boy. I'm proud.
What next then in the RPG lite vein for him would be a good one? I'm wondering about Costume Quest on XBLA. Or what about The Dragon Quest games, we've not really explored them? oh Milo tells me he's tried it on the DS and found it a bit hard. anything else worth looking at on the 360?
  • Costume Quest would be a good choice... it's only "taxing" if you try to go for everything in the game cos you need to keep track of everything you've done. Having said that, at least one of the "side quest" costumes is almost essentially (the unicorn) so I would suggest at least getting that one.
  • Not bad going. There are one or two boss battles in Thousand year door that get very tricky unless you have the right strategy. Some crafty puzzle elements to boot.

  • @nocky: Now, take this how you will, but MrsM has 250/250 on Costume Quest.
  • It's just dolls innit.

    ;-)

Milo says he knows what you mean...

  • Uncharted all done on normal. 30 of the 60 treasures found. Got a bit too shooty at the end but still, wonderful game

    That'll do pig.
