The Xbox 360 Achievement baiting/bragging/discussion thread.
  • I thought I'd splinter this off from the 360 discussion thread, as it's all rather dull and pointless.

    But.... http://www.trueachievements.com/leaderboard.aspx?leaderboardid=774&findgamerid=71782

  • You're rather dull and pointless.
  • So's your face.
  • Touché.
  • Harsh but fair.
  • Also, what are these stupid numbers you're using? TA nonsense.
  • Are you saying i need to play something this evening, WELSHY?
  • @budgie: Are you really going to argue one unit of GamerScore is more valid or meaningful than another?

    Your mum's bland and pointless.

@Damo: It's DR Welshy to you, you cheeky northern scamp.

Cor, I'm loving the banter thread.

  • Only because you couldn't excite her.

    :ohdeargoingdownhillfast:
  • No, that's entirely the correct response. Carry on.
  • Also, I love how 9 out of your top 10 TA achievements aren't even for really playing games. Just wailing and banging plastic drums like an epileptic chimp at an old school rave.
  • Actually, they're for playing a real guitar.

Rather than for losing at vidoegames.
  • So your measurement of how good you are at video games is largely based on how good you are at music?

Good job it's not based on your wit/sexual prowess/football skills.
  • And I spent a day pissing in a bottle for the pride of achievement, not because of some superior TA ratio calculated on a website.

A TA ratio of 5.2 for losing. You've managed to lose more spectacularly than almost anyone else who's played that game. Well done.
  • It's the completionist in me.

Next up, Lips - 1586 TA points. For fucking karaoke.
  • Just humouring the wife. It's that, or take her back to bed.
  • So, what you're essentially saying, is that not all of the TA points are yours. Yet you come waltzing in here proclaiming to be 1 point behind me?

    Ban request, tag team gaming.
  • Nope, they're mine. The wife and I sang duets.
  • 47 TA points for hitting a cowbell 50 times.

    Do you actually play games?
  • reloaded said:

Yes, it must be tough maintaining that 40% completion rate.

  • This thread is AMAZING!

I sit head and shoulders above you chumps for quality Achievements. RR6 anyone? I thought not.

    Chumps.
  • It was a phase I was going through. I saw the light.

How about we talk about how you're almost 500 Gamersweeties behind me, yet just one TA point. Lots of easy points there?
  • A couple of girl's scores, that's all they are
  • Really Rocky?

4 out of your top 10 TA scores are from Your Shape: Fitness Evolved.

    Let's not, shall we?

  • I sir, am fitness evolved and you know it
  • You madam, are a woman.
  • And an ugly one at that.
  • Ah Rock, your best games is a whore's paradise - Your Shape, Kung Fu Panda, Lots of LEGO, Fight Night 3 and of course, King Kong.
  • I would just like to pop into this wonderful thread to let everyone know I have just beaten twisted's TA score. That is all.

  • Nice one Tom!

    He deserved it ;)
  • And I've added another 400 or so TA points on my lead on Scrotey.. just to rub salt in the wound.. =p
  • Live in the now people. No whoring here, just pure brill
  • I'll be honest Keith, anyone who has Mysims and Hotwheels as 2 of their top 3 scoring games is pretty much invisible to me.

They aren't really bad games, not good ones either. I have many titles that are aimed at kids simply because I rent them from LoveFilm for Damien to play, and I view it as wasting money to rent a game and have Damien spend 2-3 hours on it over a week and then return it. So I play them, usually with him, and mop up all the chievos on it for completions sake.
  • Nothing wrong with being a completionist. You can't really use it as bragging rights though. That'd be like counting CSI towards your gamer score.

    Oh.
  • Now that one I'll gladly hold my hands up to.. when LoveFilm sends it.. I love CSI, have it on the wii and loved it, so am actually looking forward to playing both CSI games on the 360.

It baffles me that so many people in the 360 community look down on certain games, such as Lost, CSI, King Kong, and MANY kids games.. I play games for fun, the chievos are just a background interest.
If a game is god awful(Condemned 2) then I'll deal with the scar on my record and never look at it again, but it must be said the most fun I've had on the 360 except for Rodent sessions online have been from kids games such as MySims(repetitive but fun while it lasted), Surf's Up, and several LEGO games.
  • Again, nothing wrong with playing kids games for fun. However, using the points gleaned from said games aimed at ages 7 and under is no cause for bragging in an achievements thread. Neither is karaoke or losing weight.

    Ban requests all round.
  • And I was wondering how Tromain had apparently so many "new" games to be able to play and get gamer smarties from ;)

Haha lovefilm is a godsend for a gamer on a tight budget! I very rarely buy games, unless I rent it and really love it, or know I'll enjoy playing it for a very long time. Depending on the game I get anywhere from 4-8 games per month with my subscription.

    Fuckpig.

I've been running through Gears 1 with my neice three times, we're about to finish it on Insane which'll give her another load of cheevo's but lil fat micky here hasn't seen a cheevo on it for about three years.

Still got a session on Duke coming up that'll cough up some points.
  • I gave up on even checking for achievements a month or two back. It has had two major negative influences on me: ignoring the PC and ignoring the PS3.

I used to consider getting 'value' out of a game meant hitting 500points, but not any more. Bulletstorm can sit at 290 or so, until I get the inclination to play co-op or echoes maps for enjoyment, not points. The other night I almost slipped back - put on the megadrive ultimate collection and played Decap Attack. Get 5 special coins and you get 30points. I had Decap Attack back in 1993 or 94. It was shit then and it's shit now. I turned it off with 4 special coins in the bank, glad it had prevented a relapse.

  • There's also trophies on PS3... There's less urge to batter those because I'm comfy with my score. That was until I accepted Chad's request and saw the chubby fingered fuck had 900 odd trophies.
  • @gogs: You're a wise man. I was tempted to have a look at Portal 2's Achievement list, so I can maximise points as I play through. I fortunately resisted - I don't want any hint of what's coming.
  • I used to consider getting value out of a game was beating the average score on MGC, but MGC has gone now, and TA doesn't show any kind of average (although one day I might get round to suggesting it).

I'm not obsessed with achievements - I don't mind leaving them unachieved - but they are kind of a loose guideline for me. I did make a point of checking and grabbing the missable achievements on AC:B the other day.

And the competition is a bit of fun. I had a lengthy battle with a colleague after he set his goals on TA to beat my gamer score and TA score by April this year. He beat my TA but not my gamer score, by the deadline. He's cleared off by a few thousand points, now, but so what? It was just for laughs.

I guess with anything like that, there is an instinct for completion which can take over. I was just thinking about that earlier as I spent money on a shit rare book just because I'm trying to complete a set. And then there was the time I spent £180 on Pocket fucking Reversi to complete my NGPC collection. There can come a point where you realise that the measurement has become more important than the thing being measured. :)
  • I miss the good ole days, when the thrill of the hunt was fresh, and the Rodent league table was good natured and competitive. Then Colin flounced off the top spot, Gogs was convicted of substance abuse which fuelled his all night sessions, Rocky dropped his quality bar so low that he ended up playing children's games, and finally someone went and cheated. And refused to admit it.

It's just not the same any more.
  • Mr_Kentish said: Then Colin flounced off the top spot
Haha, it was a bit of a flounce.

I hit a similar conclusion to Gogs. I was playing games with the view to getting as many Achievements as I could, which often meant sitting with a laptop out guiding me where to go instead of just playing and enjoying the game. When I stopped doing that, games became fun again - I didn't mind abandoning a game part way through if it stopped being enjoyable, or replaying a poor game to get more Achievements.

So, Achievements ruined gaming for me, in that they've taken over from the game itself. They're a great addition, but the scoring and leaderboards aspect have no place in my eyes; it should just be an achievement. PS Trophies are marginally better in that respect, but the whole levelling up adds a score to something that doesn't need it.

Yeah, for mostly similar reasons. I'd seen a couple of them listed and guessed what I might need to do for them ("Smash TV" for example). One I did repeat at the time to get a cheevo was doing a certain chamber in a certain time. And I got "Schroedinger's Catch" completely by accident hah hah...

Need to get on with multiplayer some point... I've promised someone I know the "Professor Portal" achievement, but once that's out of the way and I've done the chambers once, I'll be back for wanting other gamer smarties with people...
