LA Noire
  • Oh for fucksake. I really do feel a lot of sympathy for Sony now. One of the cornerstone companies that has done so much for the hobby I love.
  • Never rains but it pours. No affection for sony as a gaming company but wouldn't ever wish this current run of luck on them.

Problem will be if the overheating is causing any damage or not, otherwise it's just another little update and will be forgotten in now time. Just seems worse taken in the wider picture of everything else that's happened over the last month.
  • Been reading about this and it seems that it's also happening on 360 so may be a game in the bug and Rockstar might be... well...
  • Great, so when it turns up, don't play it until they patch it?
  • Anybody guess right now :/
  • I'll test it if you like... actually no I won't I'll wait.
  • Sainsbury's has shipped my copy -- I'll probably risk it in my PS3 as soon as it turns up to be honest.

  • Hmmmm I'm a bit dubious now of playing anything at the moment on the PS3. Gut feeling says if it overheats my unit then I might end up triggering a YLOD problem.
  • Chuck it in the fridge before switching it on.

  • Luckily (!) I can't buy this till next week as I've been throwing money at the new car for the last two weeks. I'm up to about 400 quid at the mo so buying a new game will just get an earbashing from Sue.

Hopefully by then they'll be an update or patch.

I do feel a bit sorry for Sony though, it must feel like a fucking seige
  • Amazon have dispatched my copy, so that should be here tomorrow. :)

Will have to put in some hard graft today so I can have a little guilt-free skive time tomorrow when it arrives. ;)
  • Some of you PS3 bellends need to man up. I'll be getting this and my PS3 will damn well put up with it.
  • We get the same scare stories about the latest, greatest new whizz-bang game causing machines to die with every bloody release these days. These modern consoles cark it if you look at them wrong anyway, so it's more than likely just coincidence.
  • So what, in the firmware would cause overheating? - Fan control?
  • I read more about this last night and it looked like R* were using the PS3 firmware as a scapegoat, as 360s are also seeing the game crash.

You told us this last night (although without the link). ;-)
  • I'll disconnect from PSN before playing, see if that works.
  • @PVB I thought I'd add the link to save Lans having to read back a few posts ;)
  • Thanks love.

  • Its meltdown in the comments thread at R* that Matt linked to.

However, this made me grin.... Someone posted the following...

GROUND BREAKING EXPLOIT FOUND-- FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO FIX THE OVERHEAT ISSUE:

    1. Disconnect your playstation or Xbox so that it has no cables attached to it.

    2. Place your console in a microwave (THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU HAVE SHARP OR SAMSUNG MICROWAVES!!).

    3. Place 3 water bottles (closed) in the microwave around your console so that they form a triangle, they MUST be upside down.

    4. balance (vertically) 25 AAA batteries on tops of your console side by side to that they form a circle.

    5. Place one AA battery (horizontal) in the center of the AAA batteries

    6. MAKE SURE THE BATTERIES ARE 'ENERGIZER' OR ELSE IT WILL NOT WORK

    7. Go to your car (if you do not own one, find any car.

    8. Open the gas tank located at the rear of the car.

    9. Get one of those syringes from the pharmacy, and drain 5 ml of liquid from the tank. Go back to the microwave. YOU MUST DO THIS IN LESS THAN TEN MINUTES OR IT WILL NOT WORK.

    10. Evenly distribute the liquid so that it connects the three bottles.

    11. Close the microwave.

    12. Relocate your tv so that it is close to the microwave.

    13. Change the channel to cartoon network.

    14. Wait until the powerpuff girls comes on.

    15. Wait until 12 minutes and 23 seconds have passed (YOU HAVE TO BE EXACT), and raise the volume to the maximum

    16. Set the timer on the microwave to sixty seconds.

    17. Switch on the microwave.

    18. Place your face on the glass of the microwave door.

    19. Start humming the song 'TNT' by ACDC (DO NOT SCREW UP OR THIS WILL NOT WORK)

    20. If you did everything right, your microwave will rotate counterclockwise, and a compartment will pop out, inside you will find a silver card...this is either the samsung membership card or Sharp membership card, do not worry...they both work.

    21. Go to the empire state building...take an elevator to the top floor, find the stairs, get to the roof.

    22. In front of the door you will find three fans rotating next to each other, go to the middle one, and take all your clothes off.

    23. Pee on the membership card. If it turns blue, you are qualified to enter, if it turns red, YOU SCREWED UP.

    24. If it turns red, repeat steps 1-23 till it turns blue

    25. When it turns blue, put your clothes back on, the fan would have stopped moving and the cover will slide to the left.

    26. Walk through the passage, you will find an elevator, take the elevator down to floor -1

    27. Ahead of you, you will find a huge circular door with a single camera implanted in the center.

    28. Go up to the camera.

    29. hold out your membership card and say your full name backwards (WARNING: IF YOU DO NOT SAY IT BACKWARDS YOU WILL DIE).

    30. If you did not die, the floor tile by your right foot will open up, you will find three pills in there.

    31. Take the pills in this order : yellow-blue-red

    32. If you did it right the door will open up and you will find a wall with a slot in it.

    33. Take the USB flash drive in the slot, this contains the patch.

  • sounds like a Douglas Adams infocom game. Slightly less obscure maybe.
  • Just got home. I'm Noire'd up.
  • Just got the e-mail from Sainsburys to say mine is shipped, so might arrive tomorrow or Saturday. :-]

    Revoo asap, plskthx.
  • he can't, his machine just blew up
  • It's shit.

I've only got a short period of time to play at the moment... just starting out on the first case after the intro. Looks nice, and yeah, it's more adventure than action game. I think this could be really interesting.
  • It's on the culture show right now. BBC2

  • I'm enjoying the change of pace a lot, and got to "interrogate" my first suspect. It's done in a very interesting way, that. Oh, and my 360 is still alive, too.

And was that a massive spoiler, there? Cheers, BBC.
  • Enjoying it so far (About 2hrs in) It’s definitely got its flaws: it follows the Rockstar tradition of having your character steer like a tank, and the interrogation system can feel slightly haphazard in that selecting the ‘Doubt’ option out of caution launches Phelps into a tirade that sounds nothing like what you thought you pressed (Also known as Shepard’s Syndrome), but the game is packed with detail and the sleuthing is brilliant fun.

I’ve been reading a lot of James Ellroy lately, and recognizing locations from the books in-game is a cool thing I don’t think I’ve ever actually experienced in a videogame. Sadly, I have to wait till Saturday to get back into it; might hunt down some of those hidden vehicles and have a mooch round the city.
  • The Amazon fairy has been. Installing now...
  • Just picked this up from HMV. £39.99 with free DLC and a free LA Confidential Blu Ray.
  • Spaz post!

  • Assume the free blu ray is only for the PS3 version? :(
  • Don't think so
  • Ahhh tempting.
  • Gah! No game from Sainsbury yet! :-{

    PVB SMASH!!!

  • Maybe it's the first level, you have to use your detective skills to find the game :P
  • Played a couple of hours of this earlier. So far, so good, not really got far enough into it to pass judgement, but it's looking promising.
  • Oh, and it hasn't killed my PS3. There was a 10 MB patch before I started, not sure if that has anything to do with the console-killing issue.
  • My LA Noire review: fucking brilliant.

    Carry on.
  • That just means the story is good. What about the game? ;)
  • The game is loads of fun. Not got anywhere near the actual story yet.
  • It's bloody tricky getting some of the question approaches right sometimes. Just buggered up one interview already, find the difference between doubt and lie a fine line
  • Also, do we need a spoiler thread?

    Lie
    Doubt
    Truth

There's crashing and then there's burning out your console. Crashing is Rockstar's fault, burning out your PS3 is Sony's. The overheating issue doesn't happen on 360s.

    And frankly, that's a surprise.

  • Really enjoying this so far. It's a lovely change of pace compared to most game styles released at the moment. :)

Yes, I think it would be best. :-)

Fucking Sainsburys fucking still fucking haven't fucking delivered my fucking game and the only fucking post today has just been fucking delivered!

    Fuck!
  • Sorry to hear that Steve-O -- mine turned up yesterday. Maybe take advantage of the Tesco deal and trade-in your Sainsbury's copy when it arrives?
  • Too busy today to do go and any shopping, as I'm out with a friend all day from lunchtime. :-]
