  • RTE, RTE2, TV3, TG4 and there's nothing on?

    I don't believe it.
  • There's that program where the pope tells people not to wear condominioms.
  • Surely there's today's repeat of Magnum still to watch.

Do they still have that late late show?
  • New series of the Gadget Show - Channel5 - 20:00hrs

(Did a search for "TV" but it didn't find this thread.. :L )

Yeah, hosted now by Ryan Tubridy. Occasional decent guest, crowd still consists of red-faced farmers and their wives up from the midlands sitting nonplussed as the latest band plays their hit and American actresses talk about clitorises.

"The Pope's What not to Wear"
  • Thread win :D
  • Tonight's episode of How TV Ruined Your Life on Love was brilliant I thought, so catch it on the repeat on BBC2 Scotland & NI tomorrow or on iPlayer. It may have worked for me because I'm recently out of a relationship, but it also appeared free of any Newswipe or Screenwipe recycling which have made some of the earlier episodes seem like repeats.
  • Agreed - aside from the misplaced boyband thing at the end, it was a wonderful extended rant by Brooker. Too misanthropic to completely agree with, but as funny as fuck.
  • Aliens extended cut starting now on Film 4+1.
  • About to start on Channel 4 is a Dispatches about hospital food.

    Should be interesting.
  • Wow!

The journalist in hospital is trying to eat the same shit that I was two weeks ago, made in Wales and then reheated at the hospital.

The lasagne has to be seen to be believed; looks like dog sick with dead skin in it.
  • Can't wait for A Game of Thrones:

Not having Sky I just hope I don't have to wait too long for the box set...

  • Anyone watching 'The Killing' on BBC4? It's really good Danish drama about the murder of a teenager set over the 20 days following the crime and the police investigation. It has subtitles but that in some ways makes it better, as you are totally drawn in to it because you have to concentrate. Highly recommended.

  • That actually sounds something I'd enjoy, I'll try and have a peep on iplayer at the weekend.
  • I recorded the first two episodes of Boardwalk Empire last week, on Sky Three thanks to Freeview. But they do not appear to be on this week - is this a case of Sky saying 'have a taste luv - now hand over your subscription if you want to see the rest?'
  • I believe so.

The first hit is always free

edit: In fact I think that the purpose of creating the new channel Sky Atlantic is pretty much to keep the expensive US Drama's of channels that are available on FreeSat / Virgin etc.

  • @Mr_Kentish If you need any help with getting those episodes send me a message ;-)
  • I do have Sky and still haven't managed to see Boardwalk Empire. I don't have any means of recording it (except for the Sky 3 version on Freeview, possibly), and their scheduling was fairly bizarre early on. Bollocks to 'em.

Watched the first two of The Killing the other day. I thought they were about to time out on iPlayer, but when I checked the next day it said they were available until April.
  • I've got Boardwalk Empire and Treme on my Sky planner, but not watched either yet. I'm cancelling my subscription for the end of the Cricket World Cup and I'll miss the end of the series, so I'm not too bothered about starting.

I don't have Sky3 on my freeview. I might have to refresh the channels, or it simply might not be available where I am.
  • I started watching the first one of Treme on Friday, too, but decided I was tired and didn't want to commit to another series right now. I'm not that bothered. I'm expecting that they'll all have to go round a few times to fill the schedule of Sky Atlantic.
  • @ely

You are always the man when it comes to TV. Let me watch them and see if it sticks.

I'm just about to finish season 1 of Six Feet Under (awesome), Sons of Anarchy (a sort of nihilist take on The Dukes of Hazzard, so, erm, great) and Eastbound and Down (wonderful) and then it will be Californication and Heroes Season 3 that you kind Rodents provided me ages back.

    I'll let you know...
  • Micro Men (repeat) is on BBC4 @ 9pm

Alexander Armstrong and Martin Freeman star in this comedy drama telling the story of the race for home computer supremacy during the 1980s. Clive Sinclair and former colleague Chris Curry go head to head in a battle to achieve domination of a growing market, triggering the beginning of the UK computer revolution
  • We grabbed the first two Boardwalk Empire the other week from Freeview (cheers for the heads up Rich)

Really enjoyed the first one, but was really suprised to read that it is the most expensive pilot ever made for TV, costing 20 million to produce (can't remember if that was dollars or pounds)
  • 4 episodes into Boardwalk Empire and it's shaping up like a Sopranos/Mad Men-ish classic - unsurprising given it shares their pedigree.

Actually, it's pretty much a mash-up of those two shows.
  • Twin Peaks. David Duchovny's arrival. Damn.
  • Micro Men (repeat) is on BBC4 @ 9pm

Watched this on catch-up last night. Was quite good although I found AA a little annoying as Sir Clive.

  • Heroes Season 3 that you kind Rodents provided me ages back.

Save your time and watch something decent.
  • I have plenty of time Chadder. Plenty.

But was season 3 (and 4) crap? I rather subscribe to the view that season 1 was great, and 2 rubbish as a result of the writers' strike.
  • Basically only the first season is worth watching -- two was poor, but seasons three and four are just laughable.
  • I didn't even realise there was a 4th Season, we checked out after about 2 or 3 shows of the 3rd. If you want a SciFi hit Andy I'd head for Fringe.
  • Yeah - that is on the list Ely. I'm going to pick up seasons 2-5 of Six Feet Under, season 1 of Justified, season 3 of Sons of Anarchy, season 4 of Dexter, and anything on The Fringe.

But before I spend the money I was looking to eke out some TV loving from Heroes and Californication. But if it is that bad, then perhaps I'll not bother.
  • Have you done Battlestar Galactica, Deadwood or Lost?
  • I've done the first two, and up to season 4 of Lost. Had been watching it on the laptop while travelling, but lost momentum, and the missus would kill me if I flew solo on that.

I've got my eye on The Walking Dead (was that the title?) and Sopranos at some stage.
  • The Walking Dead was stunning. Loved every single last second of it.
  • The Walking Dead worked as a fantastic compliment to the comic book too - only roughly following the story and adding a considerable amount itself. Can't wait for the next series
  • I'm hoping it will get a terrestrial run to save me some coinage...oh, and I guess depending on how I enjoy those two freebie Boardwalk Empire episodes could be a factor in investing in season 1.
  • I've got the Blu-ray of The Walking Dead winging its way to me at the moment -- looking forward to watching it.
  • Is that from America? PS3 is region free right?
  • Yep, US disc. It's locked to region A, but Matt mentioned that the region coding for Blu-rays on PS3 has been cracked, so you might be able to play it on custom firmware.

Or wait for the UK version in June.
  • @Mr_Kentish Remind me again next week when everything is unearthed and I'll send you the full series... a mysterious gypsy put them in my hand some time past.
  • A gypsy from Hull, who now resides in the Sarf?
  • Telling the secrets of the mysterious film-giving gypsy is not for me.
  • @ely My mum's loving The Killing. She reckons it's right up my street. I think an iPlayer binge is in order.
  • Just watched this weeks Charlie Brooker thing about love. I can't believe that breaking up program is real, that's fucking appalling. Jeesus.

We are 8 episodes in and it's the best this we've watched for a while, and it makes a change from lots of US TV. It's tense, the acting it superb and the story has room to breathe because of the 20 episodes it has to work in. Reminds me of the 1st Seasons of Murder One & 24 in regards to the day by day progression and the style is Wallenderesque but surprisingly not at depressing which sounds odd giving the crime. Only issue is you can't watch it with your dinner as there's the subtitles :-)

I've heard Jimmy called many things but nbever a Gypsy ;-)

  • I don't normally watch reality TV stuff, but started watching a prog last week that is really good.

It's called When Teenage Meets Old Age, last week's episode and Monday's are on BBC iPlayer.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00z07p7

A few teenagers volunteer to spend time at an old folk's retirement/care community looking after them.

Both groups have ideas of what the others are like, but change as they get to know each other.

  • I thought episode 5 of Charlie Brooker's new series was very patchy - certainly when compared to the love episode. But it is worth hunting out his segment on Noel Edmonds as a 'proto social media guru' - the downloading music image is a killer. Very clever.
  • Yeah I did laugh at that one. Saying that the swaps on Swap Shop were effectively a pre-web eBay was genius.
