Why I Love...

Image of the Month #69

Returning the favour.
With your host Swith

There are not many inanimate objects that inspire the range of emotions that a console or home computer does, so it’s hard not to feel a certain affection for them. They are faithful mistresses and cruel harlots, who are as demanding of our time as any partner. This month, we asked our readers to give a little something back to their fun machines. To treat their most beloved consoles, handhelds and computers and to show them the sensitivity and warmth they are so tragically starved of.

Can you feel the love tonight?

Korruptor

Amiga means ‘girlfriend’ in Spanish, but if this sweet baby was real, she’d shave her armpits. The Amiga is the kind of homely, broad backed girl you might get a shameful snog off at a teenage party, but she’d bring you bacon sandwich in the morning with that satisfying feeling of guilt..

MadHippo

A balanced meal is what’s needed to give your Amstrad a shiny coat and a wet nose, and judging by the plate of salad MadHippo has served up this is one happy home computer. I notice that even though the computer is drinking, the Mad Hippo seems to be on the Coke. I do hope he’s not planning on taking advantage of that poor thing later, but by the lust in his eyes, I fear he might…

Dio

Dio treated his Megadrive to a day at the football, Newcastle against Man City. Extra kudos points given for the fact that there are clearly hundreds of people behind the camera looking at him shamelessly flaunting his geek chic. Rock on, Dio.

Stormyinthenorth

What better way to bond with your old beloved console than through the mutual appreciation of a rhythm magazine. They’ve got to learn about the birds and the bees sometime and also presumably the Asian babes.

Bog

The competition pro was a blockbuster success during its reign as the stick of choice for champions, and Bog pays tribute to its shapely form with this steamy scene straight from Titanic (Commodore C64 joystick port 1 - not pictured).

TT

TT’s adorable little vectrex is like the tiny Tim of the videogame world. Approaching each new challenge with the child-like awe that only a 20 year old videogame system can muster. He’s certainly making me feel broody.

TT

‘And one day, son, all this will be yours.’ Proclaims a proud TT as he surveys his land. Simply adorable.

TT

And to finish on: TT’s PSP giving his N64 a good hard ramming up the cartridge slot. Classy, but just be thankful the Nintendo hadn’t been on the Lambrini or it might have been rear entry.

Next month, we’re putting together a nut cracking stuffed stocking of Christmassy delights, so for our next challenge we’re asking you to make some lovely nativity scenes with the theme of videogames. We know you’re a talented and imaginative lot, so I’ll just let you get on with it. Post entries into the forum threads or email them to imageofthemonth@gmail.com

Until next time, chums!
